Joe has been with Ray's Barber Shop for
over fifteen years in Indianola's town square. He works five days a week, providing both men's and women's
hairstyles,
while Ray's wife comes in three days a week to do perms and colors.
During the Winter of 1999, Joe had the good fortune of serving a well
known presidential candidate and his staff: President George W. Bush!

What made you decide on a career in
hairstyling/barbering? |
 |
| Joe: My wife's sister was a barber and
she was doing very well. I thought I'd give it a try.
|
| What were you doing before you entered the
American College of Hairstyling? |
| Joe: I was a distributor for Mid-States
Distributing, an electronics distributor. |
| Where did you work after
graduation?
Joe: I went right to work at Ray's
Barber Shop. I've been here for twenty-two years.
|
| How many hours a week do you
work now? |
| I work forty-two hours a week; an
hour for lunch each day during the week and we skip lunch on Saturday. |
| What kind of car do you drive? |
 |
| Joe: Two Saturns, '97 and '99 (one for me, one for my wife).
|
| What advice would you give new students to the American College of
Hairstyling? |
| Joe: Learn your clipper
cuts. Flattops are really coming back! If you want to cut hair, you can certainly make a
good living. You don't have to own a "glamour shop" to
make good money! |
